Fine Chemicals and Materials Industry
Alkanes serve as essential upstream raw materials for the synthesis of plastics and rubber. Through cracking, long-chain alkanes yield olefins such as ethylene and propylene, which are further polymerized into commodity polymers like polyethylene and polypropylene. Additionally, they are critical raw materials for synthesizing chlorinated paraffins, long-chain dicarboxylic acids, and various organic intermediates, finding extensive use in the production of resins, coatings, and adhesives.
Solvent and Cleaning Industry
Alkanes with varying carbon chain lengths serve as eco-friendly solvents. Short-chain alkanes are suitable for precision cleaning applications-such as electronics and precision instruments-offering low residue and low corrosivity that prevent damage to components. Medium- and long-chain alkanes function as solvents for coatings and inks, helping to adjust product leveling and drying rates; they serve as alternatives to traditional, highly toxic aromatic solvents, thereby significantly reducing pollution emissions during production.
